What kind of books do you enjoy reading? By Dr. Richard Reikowski, Au.D Family Hearing and Balance Center

With her near blindness, she responded,” with my magnifying glass I read all that I can.” This coming from a 92 year old young lady. She knows many of her friends who can’t read anymore. However, she feels that her vision isn’t keeping her from enjoying what she likes. Romantic novels, without a lot of science and things, is what’s of interest. As she looked at me, she said, “I wish I could do that”, I said, “what’s that?” She said that she wishes she could type, but without learning early in life it became too tough. This brought to mind the program that allows you to hear the audio of what was typed. She was amazed as she was unaware of this technology.

I might also add that as we discuss the field of Audiology or helping those with hearing loss, there are many ways to solve a need. We are here to educate and help those understand their concerns. It all begins with a conversation….
