I was very pleased to hear a patient respond to the question, how are you doing, with the reply “We are on the right track”! This most certainly led to us talk further, as I was quite interested to learn more what she meant….
She went on to say, “the phone is plain and clear. Even my soft spoken granddaughter, when she called last night, I could understand her very well. Prior to my new hearing aids, I struggled to hear and make out half of what was said. Now the cell phone call streams wirelessly, and in stereo, to both of my ears with a full sound. The car Sirius radio, is also easy to understand and is quite nice. Not to mention, I can now enjoy going from quiet to noisy areas with a clearness of speech and comfort, I hadn’t even realized was a possibility! I suppose I had just gotten used to hearing a certain way, with many missing parts of speech”.
It’s a joy to have these conversations with patients and even more so to be a part of their lives!
Sometimes we don’t know what we are missing until it is given back to us!
