Patients describe their tinnitus in so many ways. Common descriptions are, “it becomes a part of my entire day, it’s always with me, I can hear it as soon as I wake in the morning”.
The ringing in their ears is in the forefront of everything they do. Trying to find a sense of peace in the day is rather difficult because the unwanted noises in their ears and head is very distracting. What was once enjoyable, such as reading a book, is no longer relaxing. Sitting at a desk while working on a computer or paperwork is difficult because the noises are bothersome. Having tinnitus becomes such a large part of one’s day and negatively affecting their quality of life becomes such a priority. It’s worth looking at some of the potential sources for relief, as well as means to reduce the noises and ringing.
As a clinical research member of the American Tinnitus Association, we actively pursue, assess, and discern the various devices available. It’s of most importance that these devices have FDA clearance and received extensive scrutiny. The treatment of tinnitus may not necessarily be immediate but with thoroughness there are valid ways to reduce tinnitus “becoming you”.
It all starts with a beginning and then the process goes from there…. Let’s help people to have better days. After all, we are committed to that.
