The Cochlear Implant Journey – Part 2

Where Do I Start?

If you or someone you communicate with think you could benefit from a cochlear implant, the first step is to obtain an updated hearing evaluation. This allows the audiologist to evaluate whether a cochlear implant evaluation or demonstration of hearing aids is the best option for your hearing. If you have never tried hearing aids, the latter will likely be recommended. If the hearing evaluation reveals poor word recognition abilities when the volume of speech is increased to a level that can overcome the hearing loss present, a cochlear implant evaluation will likely be recommended. It is important to remember that many factors are discussed to determine if an implant evaluation is appropriate for the patient. A detailed case history of your hearing health will be taken at this point.

I like that this series breaks down the process of cochlear implant and makes it seem less scary than what people expect it to be.

I also agree and like how this is broken down into many articles. The cochlear implant is a very thorough process.
