“Squirrel”….By Dr. Richard Reikowski, Au.D Family Hearing and Balance Center

What causes us to be distracted? As I drove to work this morning, I thought of the upcoming day. Thoughts come to mind, as with all of us, of timing for various things such as family, work, sports, and then I hear over the radio how social media is becoming a very big distraction for many. The list of social media activities are ever growing. How do we spend our time and also how may we allow ourselves to be distracted from what’s most important?

The important things in our day will always be important.

The distractions will always be distractions.

The time, or value we place in the distractions, can take us away from the important things. The most important things are family, what we love… are number one. This should be clear.

I am blessed with so much in my everyday life and that includes work. I enjoy moments with people I meet. I have come to realize that we can learn so much from so many things. A real blessing is found when we can be a part of peoples’ lives. I am fortunate in the moments when I can help someone learn, help someone to hear better, and to help someone to understand how they can lessen their tinnitus. I am becoming excited and inspired by new areas of my Audiology profession in helping those with sound sensitivity,… misophonia. I am still learning, growing, and understanding that the distractions will always be there but it is up to me to place a value on what they are and how much time they take up. Loved the idea of the “squirrel” and how it’s so easy to become distracted…..

This article reminded me of the dog from “Up” that was easily distracted in mid thought by squirrels. Great blog!

      Good question Dale!
I realized that in all things that we do the vast amount of things that can pull us away from our focus or what is truly important. The “distractions” are all around us but it is the time we place in the distractions is whats critical. I can share more if you like.

Agree with all the comments from the movie UP. That movie’s whole message is sharing your life with others and realizing that life doesn’t always go the way you plan it to. We all need each other for help, for compassion and for love….not just our family but all who are important to us.
