“A patient came to see me for a tinnitus assessment due to disturbingly loud tinnitus as well as a high sensitivity to loud sounds. He has participated in car racing for many years but even using earplugs and earmuffs, he was uncomfortable with the sound of the car engines and also had a fear that the sound would cause his tinnitus to become worse. He has now completed the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment Program and after a few weeks into the tinnitus treatment he was able to enjoy car races (while still wearing hearing protection) without painful sensitivity to sounds. He continues to use hearing protection to prevent hearing loss and keep his tinnitus from becoming more disturbing. At a follow up appointment after his tinnitus treatment was complete, he reported he doesn’t need to use the device during the day and only occasionally uses it to help fall asleep if his tinnitus is mildly noticeable”.
