My cat doesn’t even look at me anymore…. By Dr. Richard Reikowski, Au.D Family Hearing and Balance Center

Some moments and conversations stand out as they are not only unique but quite profound. Do you ever notice that often a phrase, during a conversation, seems to jump out and stay with you? Well, the words, “My cat doesn’t even look at me anymore” was a reply to the question, “How are you today”? and stuck with me!

The conversation went on with details of  what this phrase meant to her. The discussion of her cat said so much about her creative description of her hearing loss, hearing concerns, and associated frustrations.  Further, chatting over coffee, the truth arose that she was thrilled to receive her new hearing devices at today’s visit as she has felt separate from others, AND her cat. LOL!!

Yes, animals can and do become closely connected in our life. They are with us through good and difficult times. Our pets are wonderful listeners, in most cases. Her cat did not even wish to be in the same room with her, due to the TV volume at such a high level.

I am writing with pleasure to share this cute story and ever humbled in the responsibility we have in people’s lives.

May all cats look at their owners…:)
