It’s a sparrow… By Dr. Richard Reikowski, Au.D

Look, it’s up there, said our patients son. A person with a high frequency hearing loss has quite a bit of difficulty or rather an inability to hear birds and songs of birds. That is, until the frequency ranges of the birdsong is made audible. This morning, a patient after a week with his new digital hearing devices, said he was amazed to hear birds singing after so many years of not hearing them. He was astounded when he asked his younger son about the bird song. His son said, it’s a sparrow as he pointed toward the tree and the bird.

Together, they looked at one another in surprise, the father realizing the new heard sounds and the son understanding what his father was missing. A meaningful moment for them both!
