Is a minor hearing loss just minor?

I have found it quite impressive to see how patients with a “minor” hearing loss, find improvements in high frequencies and sharper sounds, to be a wonderful quality of life improvement. This has been equally successful with those with minor hearing loss and tinnitus. Amplification or improved audibility of higher frequency sounds, where missing, has decreased their awareness of tinnitus or unwanted noises in their ears and head. My initial thoughts have been to wait till the hearing loss is more significant or of a “text book” degree of loss. However, by improving the high frequency ranges in hearing, it has brought meaningful life benefits to the patient!

The clarity of words, discernment of speech sounds, and ease of hearing has been remarkable. We are always learning from patients and trying new things!
