Several weeks ago…..A spouse shared as her husband entered the sound room for his hearing assessment…. She thought to her self and then exclaimed, I am pretty frustrated with the difficulty in communicating with my husband. It’s as if he’s not paying attention to me. I’m not sure, she said, but however, if he doesn’t have a hearing loss, he’s in big trouble.
She and I looked at each other, as I peered around the monitor and had we had to laugh together. She put into words how frustrating the communication barrier of hearing loss has been on their situation. It was in jest, but still remains truth the same. I enjoy being a part of these moments between couples in helping them each to understand one another and to come to a point of agreement and resolution. Some good honest sharing too!
Untreated hearing loss can be such a barrier to good communication with those you love the most
