I need to improve my hearing because I have to consider myself as a liability…. By Dr. Richard Reikowski, Au.D

This coming from a very open and sharing police officer having lived many years with hearing loss. He went on to say that throughout his day as an active officer, and supervisor of many fellow officers, his day can become quite complicated and challenging. That is, with a hearing loss, asymmetrical in nature, that being one ear is un-aidable and severe and the other has a loss as well.

“Hearing  person over his radio is often a guessing game…. Hearing things such as does he have a gun? is vital to safety. If one of my guys get hurt….I couldn’t forgive myself. If I miss a radio call, that can affect peoples lives. I can’t let this go on”.

What people share about their hearing is so very meaningful.

So true! I would be afraid to do his job if I couldn’t hear well.
