I heard the door on my left!

This was such a fascinating realization from a patient that was just fit with a Cros transmitter. He had a sudden hearing loss, a few years ago, resulting in a profound hearing loss in the left ear. Up and to this time his right ear, that has a mild to moderate hearing loss, has been the main ear to hear. He has noticed difficulty hearing and understanding speech in general and especially from his left side. In particular, significant problems have been with locating where sounds are coming from, which is defined as localization. The Cros system, or better yet the Bicros in his case, provides improved hearing on the right side and the audibility and direction of sounds from the left.

There was a knock on the door, behind him to the left, and he was amazed to tell from which direction the sound was made. This may seem like a small improvement but it was quite amazing to have the perception of sounds from “both” ears! The ability to hear in a balanced way is a new and exciting thing to him!
