I couldn’t have done it without my hearing….. on the Polar Express: By Dr. Richard Reikowski, Au.D Family Hearing and Balance Center Akron, Ohio

I heard an amazing story as well as testament to the importance to hearing, from a gentleman the other day. He in fact, is a conductor for one of the cars for the Polar Express. He, as well as his wife, have been serving as a conductor and helper on one of the train cars for years. They truly love this experience with the children. Seeing the children’s faces light up as they arrive to the train, getting to the North Pole, as well as seeing Santa is something that keeps he and his wife so committed to the Polar Express. Especially, this man loves trains and an avid photographer of them too! He even spells the children’s names, through his hole puncher on the tickets, as well as memorizes their names. I loved this story!!

He shared with me that “without his new digital hearing device, to help with his asymmetrical severe hearing loss, he could’t have done it without it”. He would have had such difficulties hearing in such a noisy and confined area of the train cabin. Prior, to his new digital hearing device, he found loud noises overly difficult to tolerate. Speech clarity was lacking and being connected with people through conversation was distant. he reports now such success!! I am happy to be a part of this experience!
