I heard a story recently of a remote tribe in South Africa called the Babemba Tribe. In their society they sometimes need to grow as a people, and as individuals. When they feel the need to do that, one member of the tribe stands in the middle of a circle, and the rest of the tribes speaks out loud. They then speak positive statements about the person in the middle of the circle. Good experiences only, no false compliments, no platitudes, and no sarcasm. It is meant to build up the person, and therefore community as a whole. It can last days. All work stops. And when it is completed, a celebration begins.
So, I had the inspiration to build up our staff at Family Hearing & Balance Center, and Cardinal Hearing Centers because they amaze me daily, and I would like others to be amazed as well.
I will take the lead on this for every post, and place a person of my choosing in the middle of a virtual circle to be built up and praised. The person will be identified with initials only (to protect the innocent) and I encourage all staff to add their praises in the comments to this person. Don’t worry, everyone will have a turn. If you are having trouble with who the initials belong to, email me and I will dial you in.
This is the best team I have ever worked with, and I love working with them. I feel that deserves celebration.
First Person in the Circle: MP
When I met MP, she was quiet and did her job well. Over the past number of years, I have watched her be a good friend to the people she works with, and to the patients she helps. She told me that one of our patients loves the candy that we have in the waiting room. She has ordered a bag for them for years, and made sure that it was there the next time they came in for and appointment. They then would reimburse the office. Something MP didn’t have to do.
She is a good Mother, and I find her funny. I remember one day I was taking a bag of hearing aid batteries to the recycle center, and the bag broke…
I know!
MP didn’t laugh at me when I told her this, but was upset for me. Compassion.
When she is off, the office is not the same and she is missed. She is a problem solver, and a go-to…a not-even-think-about-it-go-to. She inspires me to be a better person. I like working with her. Thank you MP.
MP is the battery to our hearing aid at FHBC!
Tiffany,
Love and Love that comment even more!
MP always has a great sense of humor, and I love hearing her ideas at meetings because she always has awesome thoughts!!
Well said Kelly. MP has some great ideas!
I love the intent and message here with recognizing the qualities of our staff. This is a great idea Dale and to recognize MP first is wonderful. I have known MP for nearly 20 years and have found her to be a quiet and true leader as well as a person that is a team member to the highest degree.
She offers to help anyone in need and simply, get it done philosophy is what she stands for. I rarely ever hear MP complain but instead finds that solving a problem or helping others can be done easily. We are thankful to have you in our staff!
What a great idea! MP has been a very big help to me for almost 12 years, especially with insurance questions. We don’t work in the same office location, but she is easily reached with just a few key strokes on the computer to send her a message or a phone call away when I need her help, and she is always quick with an answer. Thank you MP!
Gail,
Awww, how nice and thank you for sharing this!
We have an outstanding team here. Thanks Dale for taking the time to build up our team.
We sure do Mary and thank you for being a great leader!
