I have been wearing hearing aids for a few years now. Do I wear them well?
…No.
I wear them situationally. I wear them in crowds. I wear them in meetings, or when I have to use the phone a lot. I can hear, I just can’t process what I am hearing.
Recently, I forgot to take my hearing aids out when I went to a local park. To my surprise, I heard the quiet. I heard the breeze. I heard birds. I learned for the first time in my 62 years, that quiet is not the absence of sound, but being aware of the beauty of sound. It’s what that beauty can make you feel.
The absense of light is darkness. The absence of sound is seclusion.
How beautiful! I love listening to the quietness of the world.
Thank you for sharing this Elizabeth!
I love that picture! It reminds me of the trails Bill and I walk near our house. He always wears his ear buds to listen to music. I love listening to the sounds of nature. They’re calming and bring me peace. I couldn’t imagine not hearing them. Even when I’m gardening. I go out early in the morning on the weekends when everyone’s sleeping. It’s just my feathered friends and I, and their beautiful music!
Thank you for sharing Gail!
Nice share here Dale. I love your perspective!
One of my favorite things is going camping and just being in nature. I often tell my kids to take a min and just listen to how beautiful and peaceful it is. I’m so happy you were able to experience it.
