A cochlear implant is NOT a last resort–it’s the next incredible step in your hearing journey! By Dr. Kelly Workman, Au.D

“So you were diagnosed with hearing loss in the past and have consistently worn hearing aids. The hearing aids were helpful at first, until you started noticing that you were missing subtle sounds in the environment, and conversations with loved ones became more difficult. You have been tested, your hearing aids have been adjusted, and still, navigating your daily environment is fatiguing because to hear is a challenge. Now what?

Cochlear implants are an incredible device that can be used when hearing aids simply are not enough. The implant electrode array is able to bypass the area of damage to your organ of hearing and send information up the auditory nerve, therefore allowing you to hear a range of sounds and speech that were previously inaccessible by your hearing aid. A cochlear implant is NOT a last resort–it is the next incredible step in your hearing journey!

Our office is accepting new patients. We are able to complete full cochlear implant evaluations as well as cochlear implant programming after surgery. If you already have a cochlear implant and are new to the area, we welcome you with open arms and are here to help! Let us be there for you as you approach this next stage of hearing.

Excellent work Kelly! I loved your title and explanation of the cochlear implant that it isn’t a last resort. I had a chat with a patient this morning and they shared that same point, thinking the cochlear implant was for when nothing else would help. Thank you!
