44 laps in the pool with my Hearing Aids…… By Dr. Richard Reikowski, Au.D Family Hearing and Balance Center

A patient shared his recent swim with us….

I don’t think we can claim that my hearing aids are waterproof yet, without more testing, but I accidentally wore mine while doing 44 laps in the Rec. Center Pool yesterday. I opened the battery door, when I noticed that I had them in, and they did not work immediately when I closed it. But I let them sit for 2 hours while I did some stuff, and when I next closed the battery doors, I got 10 beeps from each one. I was pleasantly surprised. I gave them a good work out when I went for an hour walk while listening to music. The Resound LiNX hearing aids worked fine!

Such a great story! Thank you for sharing this as we are pleased with current hearing devices and their Gore Tex protection against moisture!…. even though they shouldn’t be taken swimming… 🙂

This is really something that the patient swam with their aids in and didn’t really take notice that they could hear better when in the pool area. If the patient swam with a cap on then this is probably why the aids were fine afterwards too. This is one lucky patient that their aids were ok.

That is one lucky patient!! He did the right thing when he noticed that he had them in his ears. Opening the battery door and allowing them to dry out was the best thing he could do for them.

I can’t believe they did 44 laps! That’s amazing in itself.

The technology just keeps improving. I have almost jumped into the shower a couple of times with mine.
